Parents and Carers

Parenting is one of the most important jobs there is and little is provided to help us prepare for this role. For example, some children and parents/carers may not be able to communicate effectively what’s worrying them. Together we can identify areas impacting on your child's emotional and behavioural difficulties and provide you with helpful tips and strategies to enable you to respond effectively.

“Our therapist was great she really listened to us and made us feel supported it was like having a professional friend who really wanted to help and understand.” Parent

Our therapeutic interventions are evidence based and are delivered by qualified and experienced practitioners. This means that we have a good understanding of what works. We support many children and families who are experiencing a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties including;

Many schools have experience of helping children and families and may have therapeutic provision already in place.  Its usually helpful to talk with your child's school as early as you can to see how they can best support. We work with schools across the Tees Valley so please click here to see if your child's school is one of our partners.

If your child's school does not appear on the list please do not worry, you can contact SPOC on 0300 013 2000 who will signpost you to the most relevant organisation or service. We also have a range of self-help resources on our website which you may find helpful.

Impact on Teesside

When a parent becomes emotionally or mentally unwell, it can be difficult for them to explain to their child what is happening and for the child to make sense of their parent’s behaviour. Children and young people can feel isolated and unsupported when their parent is unwell, which can increase distress and anxiety across the family.

If you feel you are struggling with your own mental health and would like to talk to somebody, Impact on Teesside, may be able to help.
