More Support for Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing

We’re pleased to share that an additional Mental Health Support Team, also known as an MHST, has launched in Stockton.

The team will work with schools in Ingleby Barwick, Yarm and Eaglescliffe. This means more children and young people can get mental health and wellbeing support in their own school community.

At Alliance Children, Young People and Families, we believe every child and young person should have the chance to feel well, grow in confidence and get help when they need it.

Our Mental Health Support Teams work closely with schools, pupils, parents, carers and staff. They help schools support good mental health and emotional wellbeing. They can offer:

  • Early help for children and young people who are starting to struggle with their mental health.
  • Support based on approaches that are known to help – referred to as “Evidence Based”
  • Advice for parents, carers and school staff.
  • Help for schools to build a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.
  • Workshops, assemblies and training for staff.
  • Help to find specialist services if a child or young person needs more support.

This additional MHST supports the national aim to make early mental health support easier to access for children and young people. By bringing support into schools, young people can get help sooner, in a place they know and trust.

“We are very proud to grow our Mental Health Support Team offer across Stockton. Every child and young person deserves to feel supported, listened to and able to look after their mental wellbeing. This new team will help us reach more schools and give early support that can make a real difference.”
— Kaye Hooker, Assistant Director, Children, Young People and Families Service

“Schools are an important part of children’s everyday lives. MHSTs work alongside schools to help create safe and supportive places where pupils can learn, feel included and do their best.  Bringing support into schools means children and young people can get help sooner, in a place that feels familiar.”
— Amanda Lambe, MHST Manager

We look forward to working with our new schools and continuing to build on the positive impact Mental Health Support Teams are already making across Tees Valley.
